Update on Rosie

Since the last post, Rosie has been out of commission for the most part. Her chain is rusty, the rear brake doesn’t work, and the gears don’t shift. Such is the saga of being stuck outside without regular maintenance. I continue to post daily pictures on Rosie’s Instagram from the archives of the last 3 years. A few weeks ago I started posting an Instagram Reel every Sunday, in which I give advice about things to do in San Antonio (with or without a bike).

I realized Rosie was not in good shape when I attempted to take her to the local Fourth of July parade. I walked/rode her a couple miles, but we were really there for the photo ops. Look for her in the August issue of 78209 Magazine.

After the success of the first Rosie Show, I did two others. The SoFlo Market was sparsely attended, and people didn’t really understand my booth. They kept asking if I owned a bike tour company. For the second, the Second Saturday Night Market at Main Plaza, I had a banner made to explain what I was selling. Sadly, neither show was financially successful, but I had a good time putting all the pieces together and interacting with the community.

For August 2021, Rosie the Bicycle will be featured on the gallery wall at Squeezers Juice Bar! This locally-owned business selects artists to showcase on one (very long) wall in their shop each month. The length of the wall is daunting (about 70 feet long!), but to prepare, I took pictures of all my Rosie merchandise, printed out the pictures, cut out the pieces, and pasted them on a long sheet of paper to create a scale model. Next, I have to finish my artist statement and create placards for each piece with details and prices. I have never done these things before: it’s fun to learn!

EVERYONE is invited to the art opening at Squeezers! I’ll be there from 2-5 pm on Saturday, August 7th for the opening. The artwork will be up (and available for purchase) for the entire month of August.
